Creating art is an opportunity for me to develop my innate talents, along with my acquired skills. It allows me the freedom to tap into my emotions, both positive and negative. My area of focus includes animal portraiture through the use of either pastel or acrylic medium. I work from a photograph to assist me in the pet’s personality and demeanor.
I have gravitated toward animal art because of both the innocence and loyalty that most owner’s pet’s possess. The photograph is an integral tool to use because in most cases I have not made the acquaintance with my subject, so therefore I rely heavily on the photograph for artistic information. My work is on a commissioned basis.
My concentration is on equine and small animal portraiture, for which I have eighteen plus years of experience. One of my career accomplishments was when had the privilege of being the featured artist at the “American Gold Cup”, Hunter-Jumper event, in both 2009 and 2010, respectively. This is a World Cup event, which features the previous winners of all “Hunter-Jumper” events.
I have also participated and contributed my work at fundraisers such as ‘’’Autism Speaks”, and “W.A.G.S.” to raise money for special needs children. The proceeds from the latter event went toward the procurement of utility purpose dogs. One of my many inspirations has been recent trips to Italy with an art group that was conducted by my instructor. We participated in plain-air sessions and critiques, in conjunction with experiencing the most amazing art from around the world.
